Water damage can also lead to another type of damage typically covered by property insurance – mold.
Most policies limit mold coverage to $10,000. Some insurers will write the insured a check for $10,000 without considering other types of damage that may be present that are payable above and beyond the $10,000 mold limit. Such damages can include water damage and the cost of tearing out and replacing parts of the building necessary to gain access to the water leak that caused the water and mold damage in the first place.
